Where did the idea come from ? Who are the project holders ?

Musical genre born from the meeting of 4 cultures; Arab, Jew, Andalusian and Gypsy people arriving in Spain from India, flamenco is an extraordinary example of fraternity. José Manrubia is a visual artist, creator of cultural events (concerts, exhibitions, theater, conferences, …) of over 500 events in 30 years, director and creator of the Flamenco in Arles festival.

What do they do ? What’s the project about ?

An all-female flamenco quartet, FlamencA is made up of artists of 4 nationalities, combining tradition and modernity … Addressing the challenges that the art world in general and music in particular can face nowadays. FlamencA contributes to the movement of ideas and their interference with the cultural and social issues of our time.

Why did they create it ? What kind of impact (social, artistic, innovative,) does the project have?

FlamencA promotes memory as a factor of cultural and social bond, acts as a vector of valuing populations in disadvantaged areas and promotes culture as an issue of enhancing social cohesion and living-together.

How does the SMATH Project help them? What are the next steps?

SMATH provides support, networking, expertise for the developpement of this project.
