INTERVIEW
Where did the idea come from ? Who are the project holders ?
Bolina Sail is a project that was born from the encounter between Nicoleta Bratu, bags designer and
creator, and Emanuele Fantin, web programmer and sea lover. The company idea comes from the
union of their passions and from the willingness to both develop a project that allows the re-use of
materials made by synthetic fibers that cannot be easily recyclable and raise awareness among
people about the environmental issues, specifically concerning the marine eco-system.
What do they do ? What’s the project about ?
Bolina Sail is a mature company with the mission to achieve an organized productive chain for the
recycle of used sails and processing waste coming from nautical companies, through the creation of
fashion objects and eco-sustainable designs. The main objective of the project is to improve the
results already achieved until now empowering the following sectors: 1. Business development and
marketing; 2. Creation of a network for the recycle of used sails; 3. Partner research for the
production.
Why did they create it ? What kind of impact (social, artistic, innovative,) does the project have?
The impact that Bolina Sail wants to have is related to two aspects: on the one hand, the
development of the circular economy as a new business and life model; on the other, the rediscovery
of craftsmanship, the hand-made and the promotion of Made in Italy.
How does the SMATH Project help them? What are the next steps?
SMATH helped the business idea holders to define the value proposition and the relationships with
customers in a more orderly way. The next steps include a better organization of the marketing
strategy and the development of partnerships to increase both visibility and production capacity.
